Lot 1624 WWII GERMAN 2ND MODEL LUFTWAFFE DAGGER BY ALCOSO
WITH PORTEPEE. Alcosso is the trade name for the Alexander Coppel & Co., a Jewish owned firm. In 1936 the Alexander was forced out by the NSDAP and the ACS marking was utilized until 1940 when it was changed to AWS to signify the change of the company's leadership. This example is is mounted with aluminum fittings that are decorated with oak leaf - acorn motif and Luftwaffe eagle guard. The blade carries the Alcoso trademark with ALCOSO / ACS (surrounding scales) / SOLINGEN. The pumpkin celluloid grips are wrapped with tightly woven aluminum wire. The scabbard is appropriate round bodied Alcoso mfg with oak leaf and acorn motif, stippled panels, and contrasting aluminum bands. The throat is attached with two semi flat screws. There is a silver bullion portepee attached. CONDITION: overall good. The blade fine with some light scabbard scuffing, a few very small pits and a strong makers mark. The mounts are fair with plating in the protected areas, handling marks and dents with a rougher pommel. The grips are good with the exception being a 1/4" chip at the pommel. The portepee is poor and frayed. The scabbard overall fair with some finish in the protected areas with the balance showing a brownish patina, scattered handling marks and some filing at the lower drag area. (02-24940/ZAL).
